Today, on the Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo, the director of Redmi Lu Weibing shared a video representing a Redmi K30 5G achieve a display refresh rate of 144 Hz. The 15 second video is mirrored on YouTube, which we have embedded above.

According to Google Translate, Mr. Weibing uses the word "settled" in his message on the matter, while from other sources interpret his statement as "tested". Either way, it doesn't look like the Redmi K30 5G will officially launch with a 144Hz display refresh rate. Redmi probably does just that to show that it is possible.

Interestingly, the previous version of the Redmi K series, the Redmi K20 Pro (alias the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro), was also capable of a higher refresh rate than its native 60Hz. More than XDA Developers, modders were able to get the K20 Pro up to 75 Hz, 90 Hz being theoretically possible. However, battery life suffered as the refresh rate increased.

With that in mind, it is likely that the Redmi K30 5G's battery is too exhausted with a refresh rate of 144 Hz. Instead, we expect it to have a refresh rate of 120 Hz as Redmi previously revealed.

It should be noted that the Redmi K30 5G will come with an IPS LCD screen, not an OLED panel. We have already seen many 120Hz display refresh rates on LCD screens, like the one in Razer Phone since 2017. The refresh rates of the 90 Hz display on the OnePlus 7T and Google Pixel 4 are generally considered to be of better quality due to their OLED design. The refresh rate of 120 Hz is displayed on the OnePlus 8 and Samsung galaxy s20 series will also likely be higher than the Redmi K30 5G rate.
