Update, January 13, 2020 (01:26 AM ET): OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the company had developed a 120 Hz screen. Lau visited the Chinese social media website Weibo to announce in advance a screen technology event to be held in China today.
In her article on Weibo, Lau said that OnePlus had completed its research on 120 Hz screens. However, it gave no details on OnePlus phones that would get a high refresh rate. We haven't heard any solid rumors about the next OnePlus 8 Series sporting the display refresh rate of 120 Hz. Perhaps OnePlus reserves the technology for its flagship smartphones, which are scheduled to launch in the second half.
I guess we'll just have to wait for more details to emerge from the OnePlus screen technology event.
Source article, January 10, 2020 (6:30 p.m. ET): A message on the Chinese social media site Weibo (via 9to5Google) has revealed that OnePlus is preparing to unveil a mysterious new screen technology. The company has sent press invitations to an event on January 13 on its recent display developments, but it does not give us any official information on what we will see.
AT CES 2020, OnePlus showed the OnePlus Concept One, a conceptual device electrochromic glass to hide rear-facing cameras. We don't think this upcoming event will have anything to do with this technology, but it's interesting to see the company make two announcements like this in the same month.
We believe OnePlus will most likely announce the inclusion of 120Hz panels in its future devices. We've already heard rumors that the next OnePlus 8 Pro might come with this display of high refresh rates, so it's reasonable to believe that the company could soon unveil the technology.

We could also see sub-screen front camera technology as we have recently seen Oppo, but a 120 Hz panel seems more likely. In the end, all of this is just speculation until OnePlus publishes more information.
