The new iPhone SE burst on to the scene in April 2020, and unites a state-of-the-art chipset (the same A13 Bionic you get in the iPhone 11 Pro Max) with an affordable price tag. It’s a terrific deal at Apple’s RRP, but other retailers may be able to do even better.

The 8 Plus came out in autumn 2017 and was officially discontinued when the iPhone SE (2020) made its debut. But while its A11 processor is less future-proofed than the chips in more recent handsets, it does have a twin-lens rear camera, so you get Portrait Mode.

What to look for in an iPhone deal
Right now there are some very competitive contract offers and bundle deals as retailers try to win your custom.
However, when considering a contract deal it’s very important that you work out the total cost of ownership (TCO) over the course of the contract – lower monthly costs may be offset by a longer contract so that you end up spending more in the long run. If using Carphone Warehouse’s comparison widget, tick the box to display the TCO, and always check for upfront costs and any additional fees.
If you’re not looking for the latest model, you’ll be pleased to hear that there are plenty of bargains around for older models such as the iPhone XR and even discontinued models such as the iPhone 8, both on contract and SIM-free.

1. Apple iPhone SE (2020, with 2GB data)
Now: £100 upfront, £20 per month (£580 TCO) View Deal
An excellent deal on Apple’s new 4.7in handset (even if the company has bumped the upfront fee by one measly pound since mid-May). Scroll down to see the details.
2. Apple iPhone XR with 1GB data
Now: £49 upfront, £33.99 per month (£864.76 TCO) View Deal
iD’s offer has gone up since May (it’s now £20 more upfront, plus an extra £1 a month), but this remains a solid deal on the XR. You can bump this to 10GB if you’re willing to pay another £2 per month.
3. Apple iPhone 11 with 18GB data
Now: £99 upfront, £38 per month (£1,011 TCO) View Deal
iD’s 1GB deal remains the cheapest we can find the iPhone 11, but it’s not as cheap as it used to be – and we’d now recommend paying an extra £50 for Vodafone’s far higher data allocation.
4. Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max with 24GB data
Now: £99 upfront, £67 per month (£1,707 TCO) View Deal
A price bump on EE’s big-data contracts means we now recommend this slightly more modest 24GB deal from Vodafone, which should still be enough for most. If not, you can get 100GB for an extra £28 over the course of the contract.
5. Apple iPhone SE (2020, SIM-free)
Now: £414.82 (£4.18 or 1% off) View Deal
This isn’t a big discount, but KRCS is great for reliably knocking a bit of money off new Apple products when everyone else is sticking to the RRP.
6. Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max (SIM-free)
