How To Share A HBO Max Account

HBO Max is out now in the US (though UK viewers can still watch through the help of a VPN), and if you’re looking at splitting the cost of a subscription, then you’re in luck.

We’ve rounded up everything you need to know to share an account on HBO Max, including the number of devices and profiles you can register, as well as advice on how to split payment between your family and friends. We also have a similar article for sharing a Disney Plus account, if you fancy.

Password sharing on HBO Max

If you haven’t done so already, you’ll need to create an account on the HBO Max website. If you need any initial help on this, we have specific instructions for various devices in our piece on how to get HBO Max.

We advise that whatever email address and password you use, you’re comfortable sharing with other people. Do not give out a password that you also use for personal security reasons, such as your online banking.

Once you’ve set up an account, all you need to do is share the login details with whoever you want to access the account. However, keep in mind that there are limits on the number of profiles and simultaneous streams, which are:

  • Number of profiles – five
  • Number of simultaneous streams – three

Though you can create up to five different profiles, only three different devices can stream HBO Max at one time. This is something to keep in mind if you don’t want to be locked out of your account due to too many streams happening – use your judgement on who you share your account with.

How to split payment for an account

You can only register one payment option at one time for your HBO Max subscription, so if you want to split the cost of your account you’ll need to work out an option for this. You can get account sharers to set up a monthly standing order, or if you have multiple people on the account, apps such as Monzo are useful for splitting evenly between an awkward number.
