Samsung is going all-in on Bixby, its AI assistant that’s sprinkled throughout all aspects of the Galaxy S9’s operating system. The problem is, Bixby isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, so you might have a hard time truly enjoying your new Galaxy if you aren’t a fan of Bixby. Lucky for you, after following just a few quick steps, you can disable Bixby completely on the Galaxy S9.

How to disable Bixby button
The Bixby button is in an extremely inconvenient spot, right below the volume keys on the left side of the Galaxy S9. If you’re not all-in on Bixby, accidentally pressing this button gets extremely annoying after about the fourth or fifth time. Luckily, it’s easy to disable and can be done in only a few steps:
- Open Bixby Home by swiping to the left-most home screen on your Galaxy S9.
- Tap the settings cog at the top of the screen.
- At the top of the screen, tap the toggle to disable the Bixby button from opening Bixby Home when pressed.
That’s it! Now you can press the Bixby button to your heart’s content and nothing will happen. Feels good, doesn’t it?
You should know that the Bixby button has two features — a short-press will launch Bixby Home (which we just disabled) and a long-press will launch Bixby Voice. If you want to disable Bixby Voice, we’ve got instructions for you below.
How to disable Bixby Voice
For most people, Bixby Voice is probably the most useful Bixby feature. It’s an easy way to ask your phone a simple question without having to first unlock your phone. Some people aren’t big fans of Bixby Voice — Google Assistant is much more useful in certain scenarios — and luckily there’s an easy way to disable it:
- Open Bixby Home by swiping to the left-most home screen on your Galaxy S9.
- Tap the three-dot menu button at the top of the screen.
- Tap settings.
- Scroll down until you see the option called Bixby Voice.
- Tap the toggle to turn off Bixby Voice.
You can re-enable Bixby Voice by performing steps one through four, then tapping the toggle again to turn Bixby Voice to the on position.
Okay, you don’t want that Bixby button to open Bixby, but that’s kind of a waste of a good button, right? Good news! A number of developers have made apps that actually allow you to remap the Bixby button to another app, such as Google Assistant. Follow this guide to learn how to remap the Bixby button.
How to disable Bixby Home
It’s hard to find a good reason to use Bixby Home. Bixby Home is the vertically scrolling list of content that lives on your left-most home screen. It’s the list of content that shows you “useful” things like trending Facebook topics and random GIFs. Plus, despite the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus’ powerful under-the-hood specs, swiping over to Bixby Home still results in multiple seconds of lag as it tries to open.
If you want to disable Bixby Home, the instructions can be found below:
- Long-press on an empty area (somewhere with no icons or widgets) on your Galaxy S9’s home screen to access your home screen settings.
- You can also pinch inwards with two fingers to get to this screen.
- Swipe over to the left-most home screen where you’ll find Bixby Home.
- Tap the toggle at the top of the screen to disable Bixby Home.
To re-enable Bixby Home, perform steps one and two again, then tap the toggle to the on position.
That’s all, folks — after you follow all the steps listed above, you should be living a Bixby-free life. Do you have any tips or tricks for us that we missed? Let us know in the comments.
