It’s been confirmed that Apple CEO Tim Cook, along with Alphabet’s Sundar Pichai, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, will face questions from politicians in the US House of Representatives in a few weeks’ time. An inquiry is investigating suspicions that these companies violated the country’s competition laws, reports MacRumors.
As far as Apple is concerned, it’s first and foremost the App Store that is in the crosshairs, after a number of developers criticised the company for taking 30 percent of revenue from app subscriptions. Most complaints have been from Spotify, which believes Apple is doing everything it can to attract users to its own music service and has said that the company’s platform is not yet ‘open and fair’.
If one or more of the tech giants are deemed to be in violation of the competition laws, there are likely to be hefty fines. Apple faces similar inquiries across the Atlantic, where the EU is investigating the App Store and Apple Pay.
