It looks like the iPhone 12 will have smaller batteries, if screenshots from various official databases are accurate.
Usually when Apple updates its iPhones it improves on the previous generation, but it looks like the battery in the new iPhone will have reduced performance in comparison to last year’s models.
This claim is based on evidence from databases that have been published by authorities in Korea, Denmark and in China, as reported by MySmartPrice (via MacRumors).
Apple has registered three batteries with these authorities: the A2471, A2431, and A2466. MySmartPrice speculates that the 6.1in iPhone 12 Max and 6.1in iPhone 12 Pro will use the same battery.

The iPhone 11 has a 6.1in screen and a 3110mAh battery – so that corresponds to the upcoming iPhone 12 Max. The battery capacity will therefore be reduced by 335mAh in comparison.
The iPhone 11 Pro has a battery of 3046 mAh, so the new iPhone 12 Pro battery is 271mAh smaller in comparison at 2775mAh.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max has a 3969 mAh battery, so its successor, the iPhone 12 Pro Max will be 282mAh less powerful. (Note: MySmartPrice incorrectly lists the Pro Max as having had a 3500mAh battery, GSMArena’s teardown put it at 3969mAH).
If this is true, MacRumors suggests that Apple will have to make some “serious energy efficiency improvements” to combat the fact that the iPhone 12 series is likely to have higher battery demands than previous iPhones due to OLED displays and 5G support.
