The iPhone is often already a class-leading device when it comes to video recording, but the latest reports suggest it will move further ahead this autumn. At least some versions of iPhone 12 will support two new video recording modes, 4K resolution at 120fps (frames per second) and 4K at 240fps, according to a video from the YouTube channel EverythingApplePro.
Currently, 60fps is the fastest the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro can handle when recording in 4K resolution.
The theory is supported by beta code in iOS 14 discovered by Twitter leaker Max Weinbach (via 9to5Mac). This suggests that Apple is in the process of testing these two new high-resolution slow-motion video formats for the iPhone 12.
However, a question mark remains over whether it’s even possible to record so fast in 4K; it would be the first time in a smartphone. In September, when the iPhone 12 launches, we will find out.
