Beyoncé has been known to take alternative approaches to album releases, and her latest – Black is King – is no different.
Black is King is a visual album like Lemonade, but interestingly it ties in with the live-action adaptation of The Lion King, released in the summer of 2019, in which Queen Bee voiced Nala and recorded the song ‘Spirit’ for the soundtrack, ‘The Lion King: The Gift’.

How to watch Black is King on Disney Plus
Black is King will premiere globally on Disney Plus on 31 July 2020 – fitting as it’s the studio behind The Lion King. You can watch the official trailer here:
To watch Black is King, you’ll need an account with Disney Plus, which costs £5.99/$6.99 per month or £59.99/$69.99 per year. You can sign up on the Disney+ website, and check out how to get the platform for free here.
The album re-imagines the lessons within the The Lion King for “today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns.” It’s a celebration of Black excellence and culture, as we follow the story of a young king’s transcendent journey through betrayal, love and self-identity, guided by his ancestors wisdom.
There will allegedly be a number of featured artists and special guests, but we’ll have to wait and see who exactly they will be.
How to watch Black is King on YouTube
As far as we’re aware, Black is King will only be available to watch in full on Disney+. However, we strongly suspect that certain singles and clips will be available to watch on Beyoncé’s YouTube channel.
We don’t know exactly what will be available, but we’ll update this article with links when we have more information.
