Can my iPhone get iOS 14?

Apple unveiled iOS 14 at WWDC 2020 on 22 June, and it’s packed with new features: Craig Federighi and friends spoke for the best part of half an hour without pausing for applause.

First impressions are overwhelmingly positive, but a key question remains: will you be able to update your iPhone to iOS 14 when it comes out in the autumn? For that matter, will you be able to install the iOS 14 beta before then?

The good news is that, as expected, all the iPhones that were capable of running iOS 13 can also run iOS 14 and all of its beta versions. That means owners of an iPhone 6s or later are in luck.

Here’s the full list of iOS 14-ready iPhones at time of writing:

  • iPhone 6s & iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone SE (2016)
  • iPhone 7 & iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS & iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro & iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (2020)

On top of this, all iPhones released in the foreseeable future will be capable of running iOS 14. When the iPhone 12, 12 Max, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max come out in autumn, they will have iOS 14 preinstalled.
