A fair bit of criticism has been directed at the AirPods Pro lately, after the noise cancellation feature was thought to have been weakened by the 2C54 software update. Now Apple has released another update for the headphones, reports MacRumors, and users are hopeful that this may be the one that fixes the issue.
Sadly, however – but typically, when it comes to AirPods Pro updates – it isn’t immediately obvious what this contains or whether it solves specific problems. It could be, for example, that Apple is instead using the update to prepare headphones for the upcoming Spatial Audio feature introduced with iOS 14.
It’s the fourth software update to be rolled out since the AirPods Pro came out in October 2019: 2B588 was released in November, and 2C54 came in mid-December but was withdrawn shortly afterwards. A third update, 2D15, came out in May but did not appear to solve the problem caused by 2C54.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to force a set of AirPods Pro to update the software. But as long as the headphones are paired with an iOS device and loaded in their case, the update should be installed by itself.
You can see which version you’ve got by going to Settings > General > About > AirPods Pro.
