AirPods Get ‘Spatial Audio’ And Other New Features

In addition to the new operating system updates it announced at WWDC 2020, Apple introduced new software that bring intriguing new features to its AirPods and AirPods Pro wireless headphones.

Among other things, it should be easier to switch between different units seamlessly, a feature that many users have requested.

Perhaps the headline feature, however, is something that’s only available on the AirPods Pro. The new ‘spatial audio’ mode means that the sensors in the headphones keep track of how your head is positioned, which in turn should lead to a better sound experience, for example when sitting in the bus.

Finally, AirPods will now support 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, and Dolby Atmos.
