A Third Of All Games May Vanish From Chinese App Store

Bloomberg notes that up to a third of all games on the Chinese version of the App Store may soon be removed.

A law from 2016 says developers must obtain a permit from the Chinese authorities to get their apps approved in the country. In the past, there have been many different ways to get around the regulations, but Apple has now been obliged to enforce the law.

Popular games such as Grand Theft Auto 5 won’t be able to get permission from the Chinese authorities because they are considered too violent. It will also be difficult to get permission for games that deal with viruses and other sensitive substances.

Earlier this month two popular podcast apps were pulled from the Chinese App Store. But this isn’t just aimed at Apple. Similar rules apply to other app stores, including Google Play.
