iPhone 12’s Entire Specs Leaked Online: More RAM, Storage & Battery

The iPhone 12’s entire specs list has been leaked by two of the most respected sources on the Apple rumours circuit and includes a raft of bombshells – but there is one point of disagreement between them.

On Saturday the YouTube channel EverythingApplePro revealed detailed specs of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 handsets, based on reporting by Max Weinbach.

We’ve previously covered Weinbach’s claim that the notch will shrink in the 2020 generation, and that prediction appears again in this video; the site now adds that the Pro and Pro Max models will feature 120Hz ProMotion displays like on the 2018 and 2020 iPad Pros. (Current iPhones are limited to a refresh rate of 60Hz.)

The 120Hz figure won’t apply all the time: instead, to preserve battery life, it will be applied dynamically when appropriate. Again, this mirrors the way the feature works on the iPad Pros.

EverythingApplePro also tells us to expect improved Face ID on the new phones, and larger batteries – up to 4400mAh in the most expensive model.

Plenty to think about, but rumour-mill flavour of the month Jon Prosser (fresh from predicting the iPhone SE and 13in MacBook Pro) was not to be outdone. Yesterday he posted a YouTube video that dumped everything. RAM, storage, prices – the lot.

It’s worth noting, by the way, that he respectfully acknowledges the information in EverythingApplePro’s video, and mostly agrees with it. But before we move on to Prosser’s exclusive material, let’s cover his one point of disagreement.

Prosser warns that, according to his source, ProMotion “may be nerfed in software”, for reasons of battery preservation, even though it will definitely be supported by the hardware. He is reluctant to concede that ProMotion is confirmed, although he appears to think it’s likely.

He also says the iPhone 12 handsets are likely to hit the shops in October/November following delays caused by the global health crisis, but says the announcement could still be in September. That fits with what we had heard previously: a plausible rumour said the device would be delayed by at least a month.

iPhone 12 specs list

Here’s the specs list for the upcoming models, according to Jon Prosser’s sources. Note that there will be four models this autumn: two non-Pro (in 5.4in and 6.1in sizes) and the two Pros in 6.1in and 6.7in.

Note that the BOE mentioned with reference to the non-Pro models’ screens is BOE Display, the Chinese firm that will manufacture the OLED panels for Apple. Prosser raises an eyebrow at this decision, suggesting that the Samsung panels in the Pro models may be more reliable, and that the BOE panels were probably included as a cost-cutting exercise.
