Apple To Ditch Lightning On iPhone 13

There still remain four to five months before Apple unveils the iPhone 12, but the Apple rumoursphere is already fizzing with speculation about the successor iPhone 13.

According to the well-known technology leaker Fudge, Apple will ditch the Lightning port on next year’s iPhone models. There’s no talk of switching to USB-C, either, even though such a prototype exists; instead, the idea is for the handsets to be charged wirelessly, reports MacRumors.

It’s a bold prediction, but this fits with other sources. Jon Prosser also predicts that we’ll get a portless iPhone in 2021.

Another new feature on the iPhone 13 will be support for the Smart Connector, which will make the device compatible with various accessories.

As usual, take these rumours with a pinch of salt, especially considering that these are models that won’t be launched until the end of 2021. For all the latest rumours, read iPhone 12 release date, price & specs.
