Apple Launches iOS 13.5 Beta 4 With COVID Tracing

Last night Apple released the fourth pre-release versions of iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 to registered developers and other beta testers.

The biggest changes relate to coronavirus: there’s COVID-19 tracing, and a new FaceTime feature for people wearing masks. (We discussed these updates in our iOS 13.5 is coming article last month.) But in general the focus is on bug and security fixes.

In addition, the updates make it possible to share what you’re listening to in Apple Music. By using the sharing option, the current song can be seen in both Facebook and Instagram Stories.

We have also seen new previews of tvOS 13.4.5 and watchOS 6.2.5, but don’t expect any groundbreaking news in those updates.

The final public versions of these operating system updates are likely to be released within a few weeks. For discussion of the new features, see How COVID tracing will work on your iPhone and protect your privacy.
