Apple Glass To Include ‘Steve Jobs Heritage Edition’

Apple’s AR glasses project – allegedly branded Apple Glass – is still little more than a rumour, but the leaker Jon Prosser (who released a huge raft of leaked details earlier this week) is already adding further information. In 2021 or 2022, he says, the product will be released in a special edition with round glasses, branded as the “Steve Jobs Heritage” model.

Bear in mind that this is a product that, according to Prosser, may not even be announced this autumn, so it’s a bold move to be predicting a special-edition model already. And not everyone is convinced he’s got this one right.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, for example, an experienced and well-known Apple journalist and analyst, considers Prosser’s views on Apple Glass to be “complete fiction”. It certainly seems implausible: Apple takes Steve Jobs’ legacy very seriously, and it’s hard to imagine the company risking that with a product in a completely new category – a product that could flop, or receive strongly negative reviews.

As MacDailyNews puts it, Prosser may have fallen for misinformation: Apple could have deliberately launched plausible but incorrect information in order to be able to track his sources within the company. But after correct predictions for the iPhone SE and MacBook Pro 13in, don’t write him off just yet.
