If you’ve got Disney Plus but need to watch it in a place without the internet, then never fear. We’ve found a few workable solutions that allow you to download shows and movies on both the Disney+ website and app. Keep on reading if you want to find out more information.
Disney+ costs £5.99/US$6.99 per month, and you can sign up for an account on the Disney Plus website, with a seven-day free trial. With it you’ll be able to watch the likes of the MCU, The Simpsons and The Mandalorian. If you’d like to know more about setting up the streaming service on your home device, then take a look at are guide to watching Disney Plus.
Use the Disney Plus app to download shows and movies
If you don’t mind watching recordings on your mobile or tablet (handy for when the world starts commuting again), then you can simply download the Disney Plus app, which can be found on iOS and Android. Here are the steps you need to take in their simplest form:
- Download the Disney+ app and sign in to your account
- Click on your chosen show/film
- Click on the downward arrow icon to the right of the title. For TV shows, you can download an entire season by tapping the icon to the right of ‘Season’
- Click on ‘Downloads’ to the bottom right of the menu bar to view your download
There’s no limit on the amount of downloads you can have, providing you have enough storage on your mobile device. If you want to get rid of anything, simply going into the ‘Downloads’ section, select your programme or movie and click the check mark to the right of it.
How to watch offline on your TV
Long or short of it – you can’t. However, you can connect a device with downloaded movies and shows to your TV through a number of methods. For phones/tablets, you can use Google Chromecast, Apple AirPlay or other screen mirroring options to link up your screens and play the downloaded files.
If you have a laptop or a PC then it’s even simpler, as all you need to do is link up to your TV via a HDMI cable. This also doesn’t require internet, if you’ve already got what you need downloaded. Take a look at our guide to streaming from a PC to your TV for more detailed steps.
How to watch offline on your computer or laptop
If you’d rather have your downloads on your computer device, then you can’t unfortunately do this directly with just the website as you can with the app. However, there is a selection of third-party products that will allow you to – for a fee.
Screen recording software will allow you to record content from the likes of Disney Plus, Amazon Prime and Netflix and store your recordings on your computer. Different programmes will have different capabilities – it’s worth comparing a few, especially the free and paid versions. Some of the software also converts the recorded video files into your preferred format for playback, such as MP4 or WMV.
There’s a couple of options out there. Audials Movies is one option, which costs £20 with a discount on. You can also check out Bandicam’s free and paid versions (the paid allows use on multiple devices). Flashback is another similar tool with more advanced features in the paid version. If you’re still unsure, take a look at our roundup of the best screen recorders.
We’d like to stress that these recordings should only be played on your home computer only, and not be shared with anyone else. This is also against Disney’s terms of service, and they may reserve the right to block your account, so proceed at your own risk.
It’s worth mentioning that if you have a Chromebook, you may be able to get the Android app and download content via the first method.
