Disney Plus not working? Here’s how to fix Disney Plus

There are a few words that you don’t want to hear your kids say to you. One group of words happens to be, “Is Disney Plus not working?”. Yes, the recently launched streaming service has had its share of hiccups. So what do you do if you find Disney Plus not working for you or your children?

The good news is there are a number of things you can do at home that could fix Disney Plus connection issues that you have. Here are some tips on how to fix Disney Plus.

Make sure you have typed in the correct password

Typing in the wrong password is a common issue for people who find Disney Plus not working for them.  If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it by going through the following steps:

  1. Go to the DisneyPlus.com website and click on  the Log in link
  2. Enter the email address associated with the Disney Plus account and then click on “Continue“.
  3. You should see a “Forgot Password” option below the Password field. Click on it.
  4. In a few moments, you should receive an email with a six-digit code.
  5. Type in that code on the Disney Plus site.
  6. You should then be able to type in a new password for your account.

If for some reason you didn’t get that six-digit code in your email, check your spam folder, or click on the “Resend” selection on the site to send a new six-digit code. You can also contact Disney Plus support directly via their help center site, either by phone or live text chat.

Keep in mind that your Disney Plus account is also the same one you and other family members would use to log into other services owned by the company. That includes the ESPN Plus and ABC apps. If someone that uses the account changes the password on one of those other services, it will be changed for logging into Disney Plus as well.

How to fix Disney Plus streaming problems at home

If you discover Disney Plus not working in your home, a number of actions might fix those problems:

  1. If you are experiencing streaming problems at home, you might want to restart your TV, set-top box, game console, or mobile handset to see if that solves the issue.
  2. Turn off your home router for about 60 seconds and then restart it to see if that fixes the download stream.
  3. You can turn off your modem for up to 30 seconds and then restart it.
  4. You can try to reinstall the Disney Plus apps on your devices.
  5. If you are still dealing with streaming issues, it’s possible your wireless router is in a poor location and its signals are being blocked. Try moving it to an area of the home that’s more open. You might also try directly connecting the router to your smart TV, set-top box, or game console. You will need at least 5Mbps of download speed to access HD content on Disney Plus, and 25Mbps for 4K streaming.
  6. Some older TVs and monitors might have issues streaming video from the service at higher definitions. For Disney Plus, your TV or monitor should support HDCP 2.2 for viewing 4K video and HDR content.

How to fix Disney Plus problems on smartphones, tablets, and PCs

If you find Disney Plus is not working properly on Android and/or iOS smartphones and tablets, or if there’s an issue with running video on your PC’s web browser, there are a few things you can do.

  1. If you are on a cellular network, you might find its connection speed is not enough for a good streaming experience. In that case, connecting to a Wi-Fi signal might help. You can also turn Airplane mode on and off again, which sometimes fixes connection issues. You can also turn your mobile device off and back on, too.
  2. You can also fix some issues by restarting the apps, and uninstalling and reinstalling them can help, too.

  1. You can also try to clear their app caches to fix issues. If you own an Android device, go into Settings>Apps>Disney+>Storage, then select the “Clear Cache” and “Clear Data” options.
  2. If you are using a PC web browser, clearing the cache on the browser could help with any video issues.
  3. If you are streaming the service from your mobile device to your smart TV via Chromecast, and are having problems, try this. Go into the Home screen, then go into Settings>Apps>Chromecast built-in> and then select the “Clear Cache” and “Clear Data” options. Finally, restart your TV by holding the green standby button on your remote for over five seconds. Your screen should turn black, and you can release the button at that time.
  4. Finally, make sure you have the latest app version for Disney Plus installed on your mobile device. It’s possible you hit a bug that’s been fixed in the most recent version of the app.

How to fix cache problems with set-top boxes and game consoles

If Disney Plus is experiencing issues on your Amazon Fire TV Stick, set-top box or smart TV you can go into Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > Disney+. You can then select the “Clear Cache” and “Clear Data” options.

If you own a Sony PlayStation 4, you can get rid of the Disney Plus cache by going to its Settings menu. Then you go into Storage > System Storage > Saved Data. Then you highlight the “Disney+” option, select “Options” and finally select “Delete”

For Microsoft’s Xbox One console, deleting the Disney Plus cache date begins by going to the console’s home menu. Then go to My Games and Apps>Select Apps and highlight the Disney+ tile. Then press on the Menu button on your Xbox controller. Click on the “More Options”, then select “Manage App” and finally clear out the Saved data.
